What the monthly record can and cannot say.

A recreation visit, in the National Park Service definitions, is an entry of a person onto land or water the agency administers, excluding non-reportable and non-recreation entries. The same definition says one entrance per person per day is countable. The charts on this site are means of those monthly reports for 2016 through 2025.

They are not a crowd on a trail, a line at a gate, or a prediction. The mean includes 2020. Removing 2020 changes the peak month for 9 parks: Arches National Park, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Congaree National Park, Dry Tortugas National Park, Everglades National Park, North Cascades National Park, Pinnacles National Park, Redwood National Park.

Three cuts of the same record are below: the highest mean annual total, the widest gap between the highest and lowest monthly means, and the park whose monthly means stay in a narrow band.
